The AFRICAN SHADE MISSION
African Shade exists to provide community services that support women, children and families who have been affected by substance abuse, AIDS, domestic violence and sexual abuse.

SUBSTANCE ABUSE MINISTRIES
Working with individuals and in groups, African SHADE provides support for substance abuse, which often arises from a childhood of physical and sexual abuse and neglect. This abuse and neglect are usually the result of—and then results in—debilitating addiction that is passed down from one generation to the next.

We desire to help people find a voice and to see that abuse is all too common, but still unacceptable. Through emotional support and education, we aim to help end the cycle of addiction and abuse.

HEALTH MINISTRIES
Simple facts, like the need to keep wounds clean and how papaya seeds can kill intestinal worms, are basic but life-saving—and largely unknown to Zambians. African SHADE has a vision to provide basic hygiene and health education to both urban and rural communities.

We are networking with and supporting established health initiatives in nearby villages.

AIDS MINISTRIES
When 16.5% of the population is living with HIV/AIDS, it’s impossible to live and work in Zambia without addressing this crisis. However, because AIDS is a marquee cause addressed by many organizations, African SHADE serves a secondary role.

We counsel and educate the local population through community meetings, while supporting and networking with existing ministries currently working in nearby villages.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE MINISTRIES

In a nation where many of the married women are physically abused by their husbands, much work needs to be done. Many of the children on the street have run away due to an abusive home life.

We teach and provide support groups to encourage healthy family life.

EDUCATION AND COUNSELING MINISTRIES
Counseling and education lie at the core of African SHADE. As Internationally Certified Drug and Alcohol counselors, we also counsel on parenting and family issues. Our hope is to bring healing to a culture where abuse and neglect are very much prevalent.

We mentor, train and equip individuals to embrace life-affirming values and go on to lead their own counseling and support groups.
